January 23rd, 2009

Bath towel is an essential bath time accessory. Apart from being a utility item it also plays an important role in enhancing the look and feel of your bathroom. It is imperative that your bath towels match to the other bath accessories. Randomly picked bath towels are of different colors and patterns which can make your bathroom look completely haphazard. Plush and clean bath towels of color which perfectly goes with your bathroom décor, trimly stacked on the towel rack will make your bathroom look even more inviting.

Bath towels come in various forms and sizes. Bath towels can be classified into five categories. Each type has its own well defined purpose.

•    Wash clothes – These are the smallest among the bath towels. They are typically square in shape. Bathers normally use wash clothes for delicate scrubbing and lathering. Wash clothes should not be shared since there usage is quite intimate. It is always a good idea to keep a generous supply of wash cloths with you especially when you are expecting some guests. Since wash clothes are required in large numbers you can buy them from a wholesaler in bulk and avail good discounts.

•    Hand TowelsHand towels are larger than wash clothes and are rectangular in shape. Hand towels are mostly used besides the wash basin. They are used to dry hands and face after washing in the basin. Men often use these hand towels after shave. They are normally hung on a loop or a hanger besides your bathroom sink. The loop should be such that it enables the person who just used the hand towel, to adjust it in a way that it doesn’t appear crumpled and wet to the person who will use it next. Since hand towels exhibit similar design features as that of a standard bath towel, coordinating them with other bath accessories is essential.

•    Bath MatsBath mats are the next largest type of bath towels. These are used to absorb excess of water dripping from your body after shower. Bath mats not only prevent you from slipping but also prevent excess of water off from the floor. Bath mats are generally rectangular in shape and are made of uncut pile or velvet. Bath mats are generally thick and plush to enable better absorption. Bath mats should also be washed and cleaned on a regular basis to prevent it from harboring mildew. The color scheme and pattern of your bath mats should also complement other bathroom accessories.

•    Standard bath towel- Standard Bath Towels are bigger than bath mats and are used daily for wiping our bodies after bath. These days high quality luxury bath towels are available in assortment of colors, patterns and designs. Fabric of your bath towel should be soft, plush, durable and should have high absorbency. Don’t choose a fabric which may cause irritation to your sensitive skin. Most people prefer to use 100% cotton bath towels for day to day use owing to their high absorbency, durability and cost-effectiveness.

•    Bath sheetsBath sheets are the largest among all kinds of bath towels. As the name suggests these are over-sized bath towels, roughly around 6 feet in length. Most of the people prefer to use bath sheets to standard bath towels primarily because they offer a larger surface area for absorption and secondly because you can drape it around your body incase you don’t have a bath robe at hand. Most of the hotels provide bath sheets since travelers often don’t carry their bulky bath robes along.

Despite of having so many advantages it is always better to buy bath towels which have cotton blended with some other fabric such as bamboo. It is not advisable to buy 100% cotton towels because of the following reasons:

•    Cotton bath towels shrink if exposed to higher temperatures when wet. That is when you dry your bath towel in a conventional dryer after washing it, its dimensions may vary.

•    Cotton bath towels have a tendency to lock moisture hence they lack the ability to dry up quickly.

•    Due to their inability to loose moisture quickly cotton bath towels remain damp for a long time and hence tend to harbor mildew.
