Some families just accept the bathroom as a functional space not worthy of time and effort. Yet, a few improvements to the room that everybody uses and nearly every guest sees can add life to this overlooked room of the house. You would like to decorate the bathroom, but at the same time you would like to keep things simple. However, you are not sure how you want the bathroom to look, so you would like some ideas for decorating the bathroom.

Decorating Tips

There are a lot of different ways to decorate your bathroom, but sometimes it’s difficult to choose only one bathroom decorating idea. If your decorating ideas include furniture, accessories and other expensive decorations, make sure to mix and match the items before placing all of your chosen items in the room. While you may think that an item can give life to the bathroom, it may not complement other items when placed next to the vanity mirror, medicine cabinet or side table.

Something that many people make the mistake of doing is choosing to decorate their bathrooms with several different kinds of patterns. For example, the walls have one kind of pattern, while the towels have another and the shower area yet another. Having too many patterns in a bathroom can become a confusing look, so a bathroom decorating tip is to decide on no more than two patterns for the bathroom, and make sure that they match each other.

Some Theme Ideas

You can bring in the look of the rest of the house for coordination purposes, or you can come up with a bathroom decorating theme that is altogether unique from the rest of your home’s style. For instance, if you love the beach, you can have a beach theme in your bathroom. Try a sandy colored paint or a light blue, like the sky, and add a single picture or two to help support the theme.

Keep in mind that no matter what type of bathroom decorating theme you select, it is a good idea to keep your floors, walls and countertops neutral, and push the theme with the accents and accessories. That way, if you find out how you like the beach one year but prefer an English garden the next, you will be able to transform your room with minimal cost and effort.

Ultra-Modern

For people who like gadgets, following the futuristic bathroom decorating trend can be easily achieved with some very tech-savvy items; some of these items are the automatic bath, nifty shower heads, and even a smart toilet. The automatic bath will fill the bath tub to the correct level and temperature, plus it will provide 10 second refill cycles to keep the temperature and depth perfect.

Any amount of different shower heads are available including the adjustable shower heads and double showers. The adjustable shower is on a metal arm which will adjust from around 48 inches to over 56 inches. The double shower head provides two separate jets of water at different levels for the ultimate in comfort and luxury.

Most ingenious of all is the smart toilet. Its creators say it could save marriages, that might not be far from the truth; this potty is so clever it automatically closes the seat and cleans it self after every use. The smart toilet is tank-less, heats the seat, provides a gentle warm water spray, and warm air drying to make personal hygiene futuristic in its own right. More remarkable, the toilet is smart enough to lift its lid for you when you approach.

Oasis of Calm

However, maybe your personal style runs the opposite direction, and you want the bathroom to be a calming place. To create a calm oasis for yourself, start by decorating the bathroom with lighter colors. Lighter colors make the bathroom appear to have more space. Also, lighter colors can often modify a person’s mood. Use pale shades of earth tones, blues, greens, rose and lilac shades in your accessories. If you do not have an allergy to it, keep the theme of the bathroom being a calming place by adding lavender scents to the bathroom. This can be in the form of decoration, or it can be in the form of various kinds of soap. Decorate with natural materials such as rattan and stone, and add real or fake plants.

Decorating Kids Bathrooms

Kids’ bathrooms can be dolled up in everything from a wonders of the sea theme to a pretty bathroom that is fit for a princesses. If you are on the lookout for a bathroom decorating theme for your children’s bath, begin by asking them what they would like to look at every day. Is your house filled with a host of sports fans? Or would a favorite book theme suit your crew better? Some popular children’s themes include fantasy gardens, ducks, fish, and jungle themes. Themed accessories such as towels, shower curtains, rugs, toothbrush holders and so on are easy to find. Stencils or stamps will add the character details.

Following contemporary bathroom decorating trends while maintaining individual taste and style can be achieved with a little research and great imagination. Hunt through some stores or catalogues to see what bathroom decorating themes might be readily available. There are any number of items available in any taste and with any theme a person may have in mind. Building on these ideas are sure to help anyone create the bathroom of their dreams. However, if you do decide to indulge in some fresh decorating ideas for the bathroom, be prepared to want to spend even more time inside!

By: Stephen Dolan

About the Author:

When designing or remodeling a bathroom, storage is usually the last thing that people think about but it could affect the functionality of your new bathroom. With a lot of the modern style bathroom vanities and the pedestal bathroom vanities, you end up losing much needed storage space by choosing form over function. Storage space in your bathroom is something that should be factored into the layout and choice of your bathroom vanity, and any other bathroom furniture pieces you might choose. As a home remodeler, I always try to incorporate a bathroom vanity with storage, a linen cabinet, and a medicine cabinet to ensure their is adequate storage.

When it comes to bathroom vanities, there are numerous styles and options that you can choose from. Whether you ar buying a basic bathroom cabinet, or going with a high end, decorative bathroom furniture vanity, you should always consider how much cabinet and drawer space you will need. By choosing a bathroom vanity that has both drawer and cabinet space, it will allow you to hide a lot of the every day items that can clutter your vanity top and other closets. At the very least you are going to need storage space for toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and all of your personal care products. While the pedestal sinks may work well in a half bath, or powder room, for a master bathroom it removes that much needed storage for those every day items.

Another great option to consider for your bathroom is a linen cabinet. Linen cabinets are great for storing extra towels and supplies. Most bathroom vanity manufacturers offer matching linen cabinets to create a uniform look for your bathroom. By combining a bathroom vanity and a matching linen cabinet, you should have plenty of storage space to hide everything.

Last but not least, is the medicine cabinet. If you are going with a decorative bathroom furniture vanity, a medicine cabinet may take away from the over all look, but in most cases, a matching medicine cabinet will add additional space while completing the overall look of the bathroom. As with the linen cabinet, most manufacturers also offer a selection of matching medicine cabinets to match the bathroom vanity. Medicine cabinets are great for hiding everyday items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, medicine, and any other small personal care products. The nice thing about medicine cabinets is that they can be mounted directly to the wall, or inserted into the wall for a flush look.

So when you are building or remodeling a bathroom, it is important to consider your storage needs before committing to a layout and design that won’t provide adequate storage space. A combination of a bathroom vanity, linen cabinet, and medicine cabinet will help maximize your storage space.

By: Gary Nealon

About the Author:

Looking for bathroom ideas? You may be researching bathroom design ideas for remodeling an existing bathroom or you may be looking for bathroom ideas for building a new one.

The bathroom design ideas that you use can have a dramatic impact on the appearance and functionality of your bathroom. The bathroom is a room that will be visited often every day and you want this space to be comfortable, usable, appealing and safe to be in while fitting into the overall style and decor of your home.

Here are bathroom ideas to consider as you are planning this important room:

1 – Add a Mirror – mirrors on the bathroom walls will give the appearance of windows being there, will reflect light and extend the room. Mirrors can create a sense of openness, making any bathroom appear larger than it really is. Add a medicine cabinet with mirror to your bathroom to store grooming supplies, medicine or toiletries. Traditionally, the medicine cabinet was located above the vanity or sink, however, you can place it elsewhere in the bathroom if you want.

2 – Create Ample Bathroom Storage – you cannot have too much storage space in a bathroom. Use wall space wisely with shelves or built-in cabinets, vanities or cabinets over the commode. Corner shelves are good bathroom ideas choices if you have limited space. Install corner shelves to display ceramics, shampoos, soaps, bath oils and candles. Display corner shelves can be found that are decorative and allow you to use otherwise wasted space.

3 – Use Wicker Baskets – fill wicker baskets with soaps, candles, sponges, bubble baths, and loofahs. You can roll some of your colorful towels and place them in inexpensive wicker baskets around the bathroom. Keep some of the large wicker storage baskets with towels near the tub and shower within easy reach.

4 – Carefully Select the Floor Material – besides the appearance, the bathroom floor should be safe to walk on and water resistant. Rubber flooring, ceramic tile, vinyl and linoleum floors are good choices since these floor materials can be easy to clean, water resistant and safe to walk on.

If you will use natural stone or terra-cotta ceramic tile on your floor, use the kind that has a non-slip finish. Be careful using rugs that can slide on a tiled floor or natural stone floor. Use rugs that have a rubber backing or add rubber backing strips to the rugs.

5 – Plan the Lighting Carefully – bathroom ideas and general lighting can be ceiling lights, wall fixtures or track lighting. Having adequate general lighting means there is enough light for someone to walk safely through the bathroom. This overall light will distribute itself throughout the entire space, however, general lighting is not sufficient for grooming functions.

Task lighting provides light to a specific area where shaving, putting on makeup or other types of grooming take place. Task lighting should be adjustable by using dimmers or controls, and it is best to aim this type of lighting at an angle to avoid hot spots or shadows.

The use of natural light can be included in your bathroom ideas by having a window, a wall skylight or a roof skylight to bring in natural light. Having a skylight that can be opened is great because it reduces moisture buildup. Remember that using a combination of different types of bathroom light fixtures carefully placed may give your bathroom the best results.

6 – Plan for Moisture Control – bathroom ideas should plan for humidity and odors in the room. Use a power ventilator large enough to do the job. Lingering moisture could become a problem if you do not have a properly-sized ventilating fan to get rid of moisture and odors. Ventilating fans are sized by the cubic feet of air they move in one minute (cfm).

A good ventilation system that can move the air from the bathroom to the outdoors about eight times per hour means that the bathroom will have the moist air removed in 7 or 8 minutes. If you take the length, width and ceiling height of your bathroom and multiply these three numbers, you will have the cubic feet of space for your bathroom.

For example, a bathroom that is 5 feet by 8 feet with an 8 foot high ceiling will have 320 cubic feet of space (5 times 8 times 8 equals 320). A 40 cfm (cubic feet per minute) fan will move the air from inside this bathroom to the outdoors in about 8 minutes (320 divided by 40).

Enjoy gathering bathroom ideas and the planning process, learn as much as you can and use your imagination as you collect and implement your bathroom ideas. Having a comfortable, attractive and functional bathroom that reflects your personal style means you will have a special place to enjoy for many years to come.

Copyright 2007 InfoSearch Publishing

By: David Lee Buster

About the Author:

You are redoing your bathroom and there are a countless details. After getting lost in the practicalities, you stop for break. Something catches your attention. You take a careful look at the new mirror you’ve just installed. You notice that you’re looking straight at…your chin. You wonder if they delivered the wrong size. Then you remember that you were sitting in a chair at the showroom when you decided that this was your dream come true. Why didn’t you think to check if you could use it as well standing up?

Choosing the Floor Model’s Sizing.

Many, maybe most people choose style and design without considering height. Height is often a more important element of the vanity for daily use. The common 30 inch size bathroom counter is just not optimum for people over 63 inches tall. However, vanity size is not at all standard. Some floor models are even lower than the usual 30 inches which might be ignored in the quest for the perfect design. Such a decision means you may end up having to bend down to wash your hands. This is only poor planning and completely avoidable.

Just remember that the height of the sinks, mirrors and cabinets should be customized to their users, according to their actual size. Not that they have to be custom made. Customized only means chosen to fit the bathroom at a user friendly height. If it takes going to 6 stores to browse, do it. Drive the salespeople crazy with your questions. If what you want is not there, ask to see more.

If you can’t find a vanity according to your proportions, don’t give up. Even kitchen cabinets might provide workable alternatives if bathroom cabinet selection is limited. And don’t be afraid to improvise.

For instance, if you are a tall family and the style you love only comes in 33-inch size, create simple inexpensive solutions, such as installing 2 or 3 inch glass bricks under the cabinets to add height. One designer suggests wiring in fluorescent lighting behind the glass bricks for an extra special finish.

The same lesson can be applied to shower doors, spigots, towel racks, tubs, etc… Decide if you need taller, shorter, wider, or longer. Remember also that two heights are better than one if you have the space to accommodate users of different proportions.

Buying For Looks Not Function.

You’re a guest at a friend’s house in the Pocono’s for the weekend. You’re in the bathroom and you need a towel. You check to see if a fresh towel is in the cabinet and… Oh no! The cabinet handle comes off in your hand! The cabinet door didn’t open because it’s not there. It’s an imitation cabinet just for show, hiding the plumbing.

While standing there holding the handle in your hand along with some of the veneer board it was screwed into, you look at the stylish row of drawer handles. Maybe one opens all or maybe none open at all. You’re afraid to guess. Isn’t there some kind of truth-in-labeling rule that applies even in the bathroom? This type of cabinet is an economy choice and is often used in industrial settings such as hotels and office buildings. Its dubious charm has become passe;. However, the style is still frequently seen in trade journals and must have a market somewhere.

If you are going to the expense and bother to replace your bathroom sinks and cabinets, choose a vanity that has storage space, not just a plumbing camouflage. If you really don’t want cabinets, put in a pedestal sink or a wall hung sink. The general rule is don’t try to fake it. It could be embarrassing.

Settling For Less.

Maybe you want a stone counter over your vanity instead of the traditional laminate finish but you don’t have the extra money for stone? Install it yourself using the best local home improvement store to take you through the steps. They love to help, so use their expertise. This way you will get the counter you want at a price you can afford. There is always a creative solution to most bathroom design problems. Don’t settle for less.

Forgetting to Customize to Floor Plan.

There are only a few standard bathroom shapes. Each type accommodates different styles. Corridor shaped bathrooms look best with all the fixtures on one wall. The L-shaped bathroom is designed for a discreet place for the toilet with the roomiest area reserved for the bath and vanity. The U-shaped bathroom is the most spacious and can fit extra large or customized fixtures in a choice of locations.

There are also other sizes such as small rooms converted to extra large bathrooms. Such a space takes as much extra planning and design as the space needs. Don’t just throw in the same fixtures you might use for the standard spaces. Large round or double kidney shaped counters look nice in large bathrooms but are definitely not appropriate for the corridor or L shaped plans.

Losing Out on Details.

Most of us want to make the most of our bathroom space, and hate to feel like a bull in a china closet. Detailing can make the difference. Suppose you have a tiny corner bathroom that you added to your Victorian gingerbread house by eliminating the closet under the eaves. You still want a vanity but the roof slant really limits you space. Create a sweet bathroom which maximizes the confines of the space by installing a giant mirror along the long tall wall at an appropriate angle, i.e. not facing the toilet, over a small colorful sink. Add elaborate rococo corners to the mirror for definition. Corners are much less expensive then frames.

Add a narrow cabinet under the sink, or wire wall units or carve a cabinet into the wall itself to save space. Toothbrush holders and soap holders can also be carved out of the wall. The facing of the cabinet should be in a paintable surface for remodeling ease. Paint the walls white for a feeling of space but if you need color, paint just the ceiling. The large size mirror together with the small sink fools the eye and actually creates the illusion of space. Remodeling such a bathroom is inexpensive as well. Just change the mirror corners, the cabinet facing, the ceiling or border paint, and, if you have extra money, the color of the sink. Buy a white toilet because it goes with everything. Tenacious attention to detail makes the difference in solving complicated design problems.

Using the Wrong Lighting.

Lighting your bathroom is one aspect of design that really needs a thoughtful and creative touch. You’ve decided on a lavender bathroom off the master bedroom. It’s finished and everything looks fabulous. The extra large lavender tub, the lavender toilet, the lavender sink are even nicer than you imagined. The hand painted border around the ceiling is really elegant as well. You’ve ordered fluorescents for the ceiling and hand-blown sconces in the same lavender shade around the vanity. You are very pleased. You switch on the sconces and look in the mirror. Oh no… Your skin has taken on a brownish purple hue; you look again. You’re sure you’re not sick. Horrors! It’s the lights! Be very careful with your lighting.

In general it is best not to use colored lighting in the bathroom. Think to enhance and soften. There are so many options available to give personality to your bathroom and the choices in style and material are endless. Choose carefully with an eye on ease of maintenance and upkeep. Remember that the cheapest fixtures are often the most difficult to maintain.

Under Budgeting.

A vanity is an expensive bathroom fixture. Expect to pay 600 dollars for a good quality counter top, sink, and faucet. Add to this the cost of your cabinets underneath, which depending on size, materials and customization, could easily cost more plus installation. Don’t put your whole budget into other fixtures of the bathroom without saving some for the vanity. It is the focal point of the bathroom and a cheap one will reflect the same. Even if you can’t afford anything else, a new vanity will spruce up an entire bathroom. Make sure to match it to any preexisting fixtures you decide to keep.

Awkward Door Swing.

Because bathrooms require special attention to detail, don’t neglect the amount of space you need to open and close your vanity cabinet doors. Make sure they can even open at all. Provide at least 30 inches in front of the sink for an average person to get down on the floor and into the cabinets. Keep the toilet at least 14 inches away from the cabinet sides to accommodate door swing. More if you have extra wide doors. If the vanity is installed along a wall near the bathroom door, make sure the door swings away from the sink. A little planning with a tape measure and some thought avoids this nuisance and saves your cabinet doors from unnecessary wear and tear.

Faulty Installation.

You’ve picked the perfect vanity with beautiful cabinets for the main bathroom in your 8 bedroom Victorian built in 1863. It’s ordered and delivered and the contractor is scratching his head. It’s not designed for the “wet wall” which is the location of the original plumbing. Extending piping around the inside of walls is not a minor consideration and the cost could outweigh the convenience.

Better to coordinate the sink and vanity fixtures with the rough plumbing. Especially in an older home, where plumbing is always an expensive and tricky business and could even be a recipe for disaster. Try to finesse your exquisite taste around the plumbing that’s already there.

Of Course It Fits!

Remember to be exact in measurement and to coordinate everything on paper. You don’t want to redesign things in the middle of installation. For instance, be careful to pick the right size sink to match your cabinet, especially if the cabinets are already built-in. Our consultant master carpenter advises that many unexpected costs in installation can be avoided by taking the drafting stage seriously.

Finally, don’t wait to find out if your vanity cabinet can actually be put in its place. Measure the path, especially the bathroom door. Your installer may not be prepared or even able to disassemble and rebuild the vanity quickly to get it in place.

By: Kinhom

About the Author:

Are you ready to make your bathroom more than just an ordinary bathroom? For many homes, the bathroom is not the elegant area that it can be. Making a bathroom exceptional is not as difficult as it may sound. More can be done than simply reorganizing the bathroom or giving it a good cleaning. Rugs, artwork, tiles and fixtures all contribute to how elegant your bathroom really is. With a little bit of work, your bathroom can add to the overall appearance of your bathroom.

In general, a bathroom needs to be renovated every 15 to 20 years. Most of the time, a homeowner doesn’t need an interior designer to tell him or her of this. Odds are, most homeowners can already tell when their bathroom is out of style. If renovation is a choice, after picking a budget, a theme for the new bathroom will need to be selected. This theme will be what guides the rest of the interior design of the bathroom. Examples of themes include Tuscan, baroque, or perhaps something simple like a black-and-white theme.

Your financial plan will decide how large your bathroom changes will be. A large budget will allow homeowners to change bathroom tiling, alter the shower, and even change the position of sinks and tubs. A tighter budget will allow a change in fixture type and artwork. The heart of bathroom improvements will also depend on the type of bathroom. Bathrooms for children tend to be more colorful and fun, guest bathrooms should be impressive but functional, and master bathrooms should have a resort-style feeling. Don’t forget, redesigning the bathroom is also a great time to add earth-friendly appliances!

Usually, bathrooms don’t need to have too many colors, which can be to intense and muddled in such a small area. Two colors, or monochromatic shades, are the best. For the functional pieces such as faucets and racks, the type of metal used should depend on the bathroom theme. Conventional restrooms may use bronze faucets to match their wallpaper, for example, while brushed nickel is trendy and used for modern work. A stone or basin-style sink can work very well with Japanese Zen patterns.

Lighting is also very important in bathrooms. Most bathroom lighting should be indirect, avoiding glare wherever possible; sconces and light shades work nicely for this purpose. Tiles play their part as well, whether automatically heated or of plain linoleum, they should be used creatively. Stone tiles are generally the best for modern and classy bathrooms, but are tough to arrange in different patterns. Cheaper tiles, on the other hand, can be arranged in different patterns to give the bathroom a special look.

Many of the last details of the bathroom will depend on what you like and dislike as well as your overall theme. You can add accessories to your bathroom such as candles, lotion bottles, toothbrush holders, and whatever else you like. You can really bring out your bathroom’s theme by choosing articles that will match that specific theme.

An additional great item that no bathroom should be without is a mirror. Use your mirror as an opportunity for design. The mirror will make your bathroom seem bigger and it should be a chance to add something to your bathroom’s style. Choose art and rugs that are water resistant as they will be exposed to continuous moisture. Without being water resistant, the humidity in the bathroom will damage these types of items.

If you are looking for a new home, be sure to look at the great Coldwater Springs homes for sale and the Estates at Spectrum homes for sale. These homes come in many different styles and sizes. There is something for every budget, no matter how big or how small.

By: April Walters

About the Author:

Bathroom remodeling not only adds beauty and enjoyment to any kind of home, it also increases the value of your home when you wish to sell your house in the future. Bathroom remodeling is perhaps the most popular project for home improvement because it yields the highest return on your investment. Moreover, homeowners can enjoy their relaxing bathroom from the time they remodel until they decide on selling the house.

Tips for Bathroom Remodeling Design

The task of remodeling your bathroom is difficult andcan be costly There are several key fixtures to consider when you work on your bathroom. And yes, most of them are expensive. There is flooring to consider, as well as the paint, and the result of anything going wrong is you will end up with place that you spend a lot of time in while not enjoying the room. So good planning is essential.

Of course, to be successful, you need to design your remodeling project well before you swing a single hammer. If you take the time to work out a well-planned bathroom remodeling design, a wonderful bathroom is sure to follow.

Map it Out

When you are working on the design for your bathroom remodeling project, make sure to take accurate measurements of your bathroom and create a map to work with. Mark where the plumbing is, mark where your fixtures are, and you’ll be able to better plan what you need to do. The key to a great bathroom remodeling design is good planning, and a map is a great way to keep you focused on exactly where everything needs to be. Draw it out and plan it on paper. It can be a good idea to cut out your main pieces and try them on your map to see how they fit and what they are likely to look like.

There is also software available that can help you plan a bathroom remodel. The simple packages allow you to do the same mapping exercise as above, and the more complex and expensive can even build a ‘virtual bathroom’ so that you can see the results of your planning.

Function Before Form

The secret of a comfortable bathroom is to put the function of your bathroom above what it will look like. No matter how gorgeous your bathroom looks, if you have a poor design, one that makes your bathroom uncomfortable to use, you won’t enjoy it. Throughout your bathroom remodeling design process, consider what you want your bathroom to do and work towards that goal.

Consider Your Fixtures

Make sure to learn exactly where your fixtures will go when designing your remodeling project; you will need the plumbing there to accommodate them. Your sink, tub, and toilet are going to be exactly where you have them right now, unless you can somehow move the the plumbing. In most cases, the location of your fixtures is going to be a hard limit, so plan accordingly.

Locate Things Sensibly

When you decide where smaller fixtures, such as the towel rack or even the toilet paper roll, go in the bathroom remodeling design, keep in mind that they should go in places that are sensible, once again going back to function over form. The towel rack might look nice by the door, but if it’s out of arm’s reach of the bathtub, then you won’t be happy whenever you get out of the shower, for example. With all things in bathroom remodeling design, if you design with an eye for common sense and space, you will be successful in your attempt to create a room that’s both stylish and functional.

Focus on your walls, ceiling and tiles because these three items can greatly influence the outcome of your project. Mix and match the colors by using pastel, earthy, contemporary or traditional colors that fit your taste. Be aware that whatever items, equipment and furniture you wish to add to your bathroom should add warmth and relaxation to the room.

You can create your dream bathroom by expanding the area and separating the toilet from the bath area. You can even add spa treatments, bathtubs, water jets and other more expensive bathroom add-ons. If you have no idea where to start and what items to add, you can always look at a home-improvement magazine and check out the latest bathroom trends.

Know Your Budget

The extent of your bathroom remodeling project will all depend on your budget. If you have a large amount of money for your remodel project, you can start designing your bathroom from scratch. However, you can still remodel your bathroom even with a small budget. Just change the light fixtures, accessories and bathroom furniture.

Designs, Accessories and Furniture

When you decide to start a bathroom remodeling project, it is quickest to organize your goals before shopping for materials. determine on what items you want to replace, add or take away from the bath area. Think about refinishing existing items such as bathtub, shower, sinks and toilet or renewing the tiles, tub and shower enclosure to give a current look to your bathroom even with little investment.

Bathroom Remodeling Check List Helps Keep Project On Track

Renovations in any part of your home can easily get out of hand, both in the terms of time and in costs, but using a bathroom remodeling check list, you can maintain control of your budget as well as keep the job on track. As part of your planning process, a bathroom remodeling check list can also help you determine how much of an upgrade you can afford.

Some of the major items on your list may include any electrical work you may need, plumbing changes or additions, heating and cooling as well as any walls that will need to be moved or repaired. As some of the first things listed on your bathroom remodeling check list, you can also determine the timing of contractors. For example, if you are going to replace an existing tub and wall tile, plumbing work will need done, but having a carpenter handy for installing modern drywall will need to be done first.

In addition to the major work, also listed on your bathroom remodeling check list would be any components, such as cabinets, fixtures and countertops. You should also list the type of countertops you plan to install as well as the floor, the sink, storage cabinets and any free-standing furniture.

Having a column on your bathroom remodeling check list that shows the amount budgeted for each item will help you stay in control of the costs of the project. When buying the items on the list and you decide to go over the cost for one item, you can always pick a cheaper model on another component to stay on budget. By looking at the costs before you go to the store, you can have a good idea of what you are likely to spend.

Once you have determined the exact cost of your project using the bathroom remodeling check list, you should budget another 10 percent of the total cost for contingencies. For instance, when you are cutting out the wall for a fresh fixture you accidentally cut through a water pipe and your current drywall is ruined. The contingency budget can pay to replace the cut pipe as well as the ruined drywall.

You may also plan on the time each item on your bathroom remodeling check list should take to complete as a way of keeping the project on track. You will know during the planning stage how much each item should cost, how long it should take as well as what part of your bathroom is not going to be touched during the project.

If you don’t have the money to hire an architect or contractor for your bathroom remodeling, you can do the work yourself by focusing on simple things that can give a dramatic change to the bathroom. For instance, add a vanity mirror or a shelf and display small items such as perfume bottles, soaps, bath salts, spa accessories and other items you wish to display.

By: Stephen Dolan

About the Author:

Get Steamy in Your Bathroom

Steam cabins offer a healthy alternative to a shower, and give you a spa-like experience that is second to none. They are a truly indulgent addition to any bathroom, and will give you hours of relaxing pleasure.

A steam cabin can create all of these healing properties you would get from a commercial steam room, but from the comfort of your own home. They offer the conventional properties you would expect from a shower enclosure, and can be used without the steam effect. They are a pleasure to use, with hydrotherapy and massage from the multiple jets, allowing you to unwind from the stresses of everyday work and life. Some cabins also offer added features to make the experience even more enjoyable, such as LED lights, radio, USB connector for MP3 players, venting fans and a LCD touch screen control panel.

Steam has many detoxifying and relaxing properties; skin begins to sweat at 37°C, and as your temperature increases, the body counteracts this change by producing sweat, as a cooling mechanism. This perspiration also allows the removal of toxins, such as heavy metals, alcohol, nicotine and cholesterol, which improves the general condition of your skin. When the temperature exceeds 43°C fat also becomes water soluble, enabling it to be released through sweat, therefore aiding weight loss.

Steam also has links with improved circulation. In order for the body to create sweat, the heart must work faster to boost circulation. The heart is a muscle, and like any, with increased exercise it will strengthen, thus improving your cardiovascular system, without having a detrimental effect on blood pressure levels. The pressure is unaffected as the heat from the steam allows capillaries in the blood to open, increasing their surface area and therefore allowing increased blood flow through them.

Steam bathing is also effective as a means of aiding respiratory problems, such as colds, asthma, bronchitis and other allergies. Steam penetrates the respiratory membranes and moistens them, relieving irritation. The heat and moisture loosens secretions and stimulates the throat to discharge mucous, thus cleaning out the respiratory system. It is the combination of water and heat that are beneficial over, say a conventional sauna.

Steam also helps us to relax both physically and mentally, relieving symptoms of stress and muscle pain, by creating a calming environment and somewhere that you can really enjoy personal indulgence, so treat yourself today with a steam cabin. There are a wide variety of steam cabins available on the market, with one to suit any style or decor of bathroom, and their appearance is similar to that of a shower enclosure, ensuring they will complement the look of your bathroom. So treat yourself today and invest in a steam cabin and wind the hours away in pure relaxation.

By: Wd Bathrooms

About the Author:

Thinking over a bathroom remodeling we come to a conclusion that in the first place it should be fashionable and lovely, comfortable and practical in use. Newly refurbished bathroom, bathroom fixtures, bathrooms accessories, bathroom furniture must not deteriorated because of the moisture and vapor, which are being indispensable components of this premise. In other words the newly renovated bathroom environment should be at the same time beautiful and comfy, and materials – durable.

Starting bathroom installation, try to decide at the very beginning, what would you like to eventually obtain. What are you most interested in: sanitary appliances or entourage? What concerns the latter, the very style of a bathroom might be splendid and grand, in the spirit of the times of “king the sun” Louis XIV, as well as daintily intimate, matching the famous ancient Rome baths’ decor. All depends on your taste and on the outlook of your inmates.

Nowadays the abundant market gives you in fact the unlimited freedom of choice while creating a bathroom design. The only things that will restrain your fantasy are the sense of moderation, financial abilities and dimensions of the bathroom.

Planning.

The choice of a place for a bathroom and its internal planning are usually determined by certain rules and logic. In many homes today you more often see two or three bathrooms, which all depends on the number of rooms and inhabitants. Of course the most optimal option is the presence of several washrooms. In this case you would not waste your time by sitting in the mornings and evenings and waiting while your inmates have had splashed in bounty. If the planning or the size of the dwelling does not allow to install several bathrooms or its separate elements, then it’s necessary to try to arrange so, that the only bathroom in house is connected to all zones: the kitchen, the bedroom, the living room. This way you won’t experience any discomfort, in case any guests stay with you. In most hard instances there’s a possibility to install two or three doors in the only bathroom, e. g. into the living room and the bedroom.

A great variety of finishing materials – tiles, fluid glass, marble, wood, terracotta and much else, and really enormous choice of bathroom fixtures and accessories give wide designing possibilities and allow to install bathroom renovating the space and creating actually comfortable bathroom. The only aspect that must be followed while creating a new bathroom design, is a style concept of the whole apartment, or in any case of the zone where the washroom is situated. But if contrasting changes and bright “flares” of color are to your liking, there can be no limits.

Color.

While planning a bathroom interior one of the starting points would be the range of colors, for it is intended for creation of a spirit and also for visual diminishing or enlarging of the room space. For instance, if you wish to widen it, paint the opposite wall by a light color with a hue of grey – and the wall will step back visually. Same “trick” may be applied to the ceiling and wood panels. You can diminish, enlarge or “cut” the bathroom space with the help of a border laid in a certain direction, from tiles of bright and contrasting colors.

If the bathroom space is not too big, it’s worthwhile using light unsaturated colors – this will add openness and air to the room. Bathroom walls decoration of different colors will visually diminish a big bathroom space, making it more cozy. Deep bright colors, such as beige, pink, scarlet, lemon, copper or mahogany tint, will ideally suit for creating a still island for relaxing in a quiet surrounding. Ivory, peach, silvery, sky-blue and all colors and hues of an early morning, loaded with freshness and light will fill the bathroom with joy of a new day start.

©Copyright 2007-2008 www.builderstown.co.uk

By: Arthur Prudent

About the Author:
